Research in the acute care group has a strong, diverse practice focus. Areas of clinical expertise include cardiac, respiratory, pain, termination of pregnancy and cancer care, disaster relief, infection control, organ transplantation and wound care.
Due to the diversity of interests and expertise within the group, the acute care research programme is thematic driven and focuses on the below themes.
Service Users Experiences
This theme focuses on service users’ (e.g., patients, families and carers) experiences of health, illness and healthcare, with the aim of informing service development initiatives and future related research.

This theme focuses on evaluating and, developing service delivery and organisation in acute care settings; thus ensuring that service provision is based on best available evidence.
